The prestigious project of the Telangana government, Grama Jyothi that was launched two years back, is yet to take off in Khammam district.
The scheme, which was designed on the lines of ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Pranalika’, was launched to empower villages and improve the services through strengthening of gram panchayats.
Under the scheme, the government has earmarked Rs 25,000 crore for the development of villages over a span of four years and asked elected representatives, police and government officials to adopt all the 1,983 gram panchayats across the State.
Speaking to KhabarLive, Mallaiah, Deputy Sarpanch of Raghunathapalem mandal said under the scheme, the government further constituted committees to monitor works on sanitation, drinking water, health and others. They were asked to identify problems faced by villagers besides preparing an action plan to address them on priority basis.
“It also provided training for committees that were constituted in 17 village panchayats under Raghunathapalem mandal. Due to lack of funds, the committees are unable to discharge their duties,” he said.
A government official, on condition of anonymity, added that the government before launching the scheme had announced that it would allot Rs 2 crore to Rs 6 crore for each village depending on their population to ensure inclusive and holistic development of villages. However, it has not released adequate funds in this regard.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties are lashing out the State government for not implementing the schemes that were announced earlier and for introducing new schemes and projects. B Venkanna, a BJP leader said State government was not taking any initiation to make full use of funds of schemes like National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Swachh Bharat Mission, Road Transport, NRLM, PMGSY and Watershed Components which support or come under Grama Jyothi scheme.
“The National Level Monitoring (NLM) team must inspect implementation of such schemes and must submit a report to the Union Government seeking necessary action against the State government for not implementing the schemes properly,” he suggested, alleging that the government of misusing the public money by investing in useless schemes and projects and further deceiving the people.#KhabarLive
