The winter season in India is synonymised with weddings and festivities and brings out the warmth in our hearts. Most people prefer to get married in the winters in order to avoid the tropical heat making them sweat through the makeup and all over their wedding finery.

However, the clothing options need to evolve as per the weather as well. No more slinky backless blouses and cholis and sheer fabrics.

Here are some styling tips by Meha Bhargava, Wedding Stylist and Founder of Styl.Inc. for this winter wedding season.

The Warm Blouse
The most popular choice for the brides is either lehenga or sari and in both the attires, blouse plays a pivotal role and acts as the accent that refines the whole look. Bury the backless sleeveless cholis this winter and opt for a long sleeved blouse with ample coverage. This gives you a great canvas for unique embellishments and traditional embroidery work.

Layers of Comfort
For both bride and groom, the weather can be unforgiving, especially when the celebrations take place out of doors. It is a wise idea to layer your outfit well to keep you warm and comfortable all through the evening. Sherwanis and jackets add a traditional touch to functional clothing. Layer your kurta with sherwani and drape a dupatta around your neck. For a bride, jackets and capes on saris and lehengas take the look up another notch.

Styles Sewn for Warmth
Long anarkalis paired with churidar pants and a warm stole is a great look for this winter. Likewise, look for styles that will give you maximum coverage and still have that glam which is perfect for a blushing bride on her engagement, sangeet, or the cocktail party.

Fabrics for the Winter
Choose your fabric wisely. Silk, satin, thick georgette, or velvet works well for the season and offer the much needed cozy warmth. Additionally, fabrics like brocade can give you the best comfort for the season while adding the much needed wedding glam.

Cozy Shawls
A beautifully embellished or embroidered shawl is a time tested measure against cold. Most Indian outfits are complete only with a stole or dupatta, but in the winters, replace these with shawls and stay toasty warm. A Karachi dupatta with woolen thread work, jamawar pashmina shawl with intricate patterns, or kachh embroidered woolen shawl embellished with mirrors are some of the great options for this season. If you wish to take your ensemble up a notch, then get similar or same embroidery done on your shawl as it’s on your outfit. This will give you an entirely customized look.

Embroideries
This wedding season will be all about elegance. Wedding outfits don’t necessarily need to have gaudy work. Instead, go for more chic options like brocade or gotapatti and even if opting for heavy embroidery, look for work with a lot of finesse. Heavy doesn’t have to be gaudy. #KhabarLive
