Medicos from various teaching hospitals in the State have decided to launch an indefinite medical strike from Wednesday over the issue of allowing unregistered medical practitioners to practice medicine and non-payment of their stipends.
The medicos of the Osmania Telangana Junior Doctors Association (OTJDA) on Tuesday served strike notice to authorities at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and will boycott all their elective duties from Wednesday.
The medicos at Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, RIMS in Adilabad and Government Medical College in Nizamabad are also expected to join the medical strike by taking up protests in their respective campuses.
The members of Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) said that junior doctors from OGH will boycott electives but will attend emergency services while medicos at other teaching hospitals will only take-up protests. The medicos at other teaching hospitals in the State are expected to boycott elective duties after officially submitting strike notices to their respective college managements.
TJUDA has also decided to approach the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to seek support and launch a complete shut-down of all the medical services in the State over the issue of quacks or unregistered medical practitioners. The medicos are demanding a clear assurance from health authorities over the issue of giving training to Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs) and Private Medical Practitioners (PMPs) and issuing certificates, which will enable them to practice medicine.
“Quacks can’t be allowed to prescribe treatment to patients. Only qualified doctors who have cleared MBBS degree are qualified to do so. The health authorities must give us a clear-cut assurance and clarity on this issue,” medicos demanded. #KhabarLive
